3-1 win - game notes.

Denmark went tall to start the game, leaving speedy but small striker Jesper Bech on the bench and instead starting Dennis Sorensen

4th minute, shot in the box by Denmark blocked by Boswell.

5th minute FK outside the box for Donovan.

Jaqua skied for header, knocking into Jesper Christiansen, who got the worst of it, but came back up.

Johnson bad pass, then cleared out ball for header.

US

Donovan stole ball, sent pass to EJ, who set it back for Rolfe, who, though far out, took a crack at it. The low ,hard shot was palmed just wide by Christiansen for a corner. Donovan took the corner, Chris Albright headed it on goal – into Christiansen’s waiting have CK.

Chris Albright booked for a yellow on Simon Busk Poulsen.

Later, Poulsen makes U.S. pay with perfect pass in the area to Sorensen.

Rolfe starts play where U.S. scraps for it, Clark comes up with it into box, gets pulled from behind – PK!

Donovan takes, makes.

Halftime.

Justin Mapp only change for U.S.

Wow, wow, wow, what a run by Mapp to create a goal for Bornstein. Most of the players are congratulating Mapp after that, as well they should. Nice work.

Kenny Cooper, Heath Pearce, Brian Namoff in.

Cooper keeps trying to do stuff with the ball at his feet. A guy his size needs to work closer to goal.

Cooper then makes me look stupid, scoring on a breakaway off a sweet long ball by Pearce.

Shirt off, that’s a yellow.

Beckerman in. Califf in.

Danish bragging rights belong to the U.S. boys – Pearce and Califf.

Full-time.

Andrea,

Great article on Mapp on Soccernet today. I agree completely with you that American soccer discourages the type of creative play Mapp demonstrated. Hopefully he'll keep it up in the Mexico game.

Glad you liked the article! I hope Mapp gets the chance - he just offers something on the field that most of the others on the US team don't.
